So Edgar's a brash, near-fearless, hotheaded kid (for some value of 'kid'; he's eighteen at the absolute youngest, and may be closer to twenty) from the tail section. While not born on the train, Edgar was brought aboard as an infant; effectively he's been there his whole life.

What train, you ask? Why, the never-stopping train called Snowpiercer, which (as everybody who lives on it knows) houses the last remnants of humanity after the sudden onset of an ice age. The wealthy live in the front section, nearest the engine, in comfort and luxury; the poorest live in the tail section, in brutally regimented squalor.

Which is, of course, a recipe for revolution.
