Hey, Edgar, your birthday is coming up. You said you wanted to try more cakes to decide which flavor you'd want. I've got a few different kinds here. Did you want to come try them?
[Definitely not also an excuse to talk about relationship stuff.]
Max has a whole line of cupcakes set out waiting for him. Has this butler been stress baking while trying to decide how to handle this conversation? Absolutely. Yes.
"The door's open!" He calls when he thinks he hears Edgar approaching. "Come on in."
At around nine or so in the morning, Max gathers up a serving platter, a jug of milk, and a bag of utensils and heads over to Edgar's room. After trying out nearly a dozen cupcakes on the man earlier, Max isn't about to forget the big occasion. For Edgar, he kept the cake simple, but fun. Some classic chocolate frosting over white cake. And colorful sprinkles to make it pop.
"You in there?" he calls as he knocks on the door. "I have something special for you."
[On Christmas morning, Edgar'll find a decent sized box outside his door, with a smaller, wrapped gift on top. Inside the gift he'll find a framed pencil sketch of himself. It's almost a candid shot; Rowan's drawn him leaning up against the wall smirking, just how he was when they were flirting at the finish line of Max and Lucas' naked run around the castle.
The box contains array of all the different types of food Rowan could find around the city - a handful perishable, but mostly tinned, dried or sealed in jars. Each one has a note attached explaining what it is and a little comment, sometimes about how much Rowan likes it, other times what it goes well with, or what occasion it might be eaten at. All of the perishables are labeled and placed near the top.
There's also a note:
Dear Edgar, Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! Thanks for all the fun times this year, I'm glad I got the chance to meet you! This isn't all to eat in one go! But I wanted to introduce you to more of my favourites (just like you're one of my favourites!), and I'm sure you've tried some of these already by now, but I hope some of them are new to you too.
Looking forward to spending more time with you in the new year!
Edgar gets a box of half a dozen cupcakes: three passionfruit, three chocolate. (It would've been a dozen, but she got ... kind of overwhelmed with baking, oops.) They are generously, if not artistically, frosted.
The package also includes a small metal kettle -- not electric, but something you could heat over a fire if you had one -- and a bag of hot chocolate powder. The card included just reads, Happy Yule. Stay warm. -Chell
[On the morning of New Year's Day, a basket containing six fresh sugared raised yeast donuts was delivered to Edgar's door with a tag tied to the basket.]
[Max drops off a gift box wrapped in shiny gold paper. Inside is a blue satin bath robe and a pair of fuzzy fuzzy bunny slippers. There's also a plate of assorted Christmas cookies.
Good morning, Edgar. I am writing to see if you have any interest in meeting with me to discuss your newfound fire conjuring magicks. I heard of the incident via Fjord and thought I would extend an offer to examine your abilities. I know my opinion may not be needed or wanted, and if you wish to decline, I shall not be offended. However, it should be stated that I am a practiced mage and teacher, and although fire is not my element of preference, the method of teaching one magic is something that can easily be translated to assist you.
To the point - how fair your burns? Do you require any aid with them? If you care not for my lessons, do allow me the chance to examine your injuries, at the very least.
i dont know if the fire thing is magic or what, didnt ask for it, but if you think you could help me with it then thatd be good, dont want to hurt anyone or burn anything by mistake
I would be glad to assist you today, if you like. Meet me on the edge of the wilds, behind the training grounds when you are ready - it should be safe enough there.
No idea what th'fuck came over us 'nd yeah...soz, I was kind of a prick. Din't even know I knew that many words, to be honest. 'Nd you're a good lad so I don't really want t'piss y'off without good reason.
So y'know if y'want to hang out still, that's cool, but if you don't it's whatever.
[Following this Max decides, now that Astarion is looked after and out of danger, he'd better check up on Edgar too. So, he opens his tome and sends a voice message.]
Hey, Edgar. I just wanted to check on you. I really appreciate you calling me over to help Astarion. He's doing okay now.
[Edgar will be abruptly woken early on the morning of his birthday by someone banging on his door. Should he choose to answer he'll be greeted by a grinning Ren balancing both a covered tray on one hand and a cake box in her other.]
